Innovative Pipe Solution for Cayuga: Ontario Ministry of Transportation Chooses KRAH

The Ontario Ministry of Transportation (MTO) recently undertook a critical infrastructure project in Cayuga that required a highly specialized pipe solution. Due to lower cover requirements and the need for long-term performance, the project demanded more than a conventional approach—it called for innovation, durability, and precision.

To meet these unique demands, the MTO identified the need for a closed-profile, watertight pipe system. It had to maintain integrity under reduced soil cover while offering extended service life. This decision wasn’t made in isolation. It was the result of thoughtful collaboration between Devron, GIP, and Montague Construction. This experienced trio was committed to delivering a high-quality, on-time solution. The shared goal was clear: provide a pipe system that satisfied all technical requirements without compromising project timelines or long-term performance.

KRAH pipes have become a standout choice in civil engineering thanks to their cutting-edge design and proven reliability. For the Cayuga project, they proved to be the ideal fit for several key reasons:

  • Closed Profile: The closed-profile design ensures enhanced structural durability. It significantly reduces the risk of leaks, helping preserve the integrity of the culvert system—especially important for installations with lower cover.
  • HDPE Material: Manufactured from High-Density Polyethylene, KRAH pipes are exceptionally durable and highly resistant to corrosion. This translates to reduced maintenance needs and a longer overall service life.
  • Dual Gasketed Joints: Dual gaskets add an extra layer of watertight protection. This minimizes the potential for leakage and erosion over time—critical features for long-term environmental and structural stability.

We are incredibly proud to have supported this successful MTO project. We are excited about the future of KRAH pipe technology in similar infrastructure applications across Ontario and beyond. The Ontario Ministry of Transportation recently embarked on a project in Cayuga that demanded a unique pipe due to lower cover requirements and the need for long-lasting results.
