Catch Basin Frame and Grate

Catch Basin Frames and Grates: Types, Applications, and Features

Catch basin frames support a wide range of grate styles that serve both functional and aesthetic purposes in stormwater management. These frames play a vital role in allowing water to flow efficiently into drainage systems. They also ensure safety and durability under various environmental conditions. Depending on site-specific requirements, catch basin frames can accommodate several grate types. These include birdcage or domed (beehive) grates, V-shaped or dished grates, and specialized overflow grates.

All of our options are OPSS compliant

Birdcage (Beehive) Grates are a common use for areas prone to debris accumulation, such as grassy swales or landscaped zones. Their domed design prevents clogging by allowing water to enter from multiple angles while deflecting large debris.

V-Shaped and Dished Grates are ideal for flat surfaces and roadways. Their sloped geometry helps channel water directly into the basin. This reduces surface pooling and promotes efficient drainage, even during heavy rainfall events.

Overflow Grates are great in areas that experience surges in water volume. They provide a secondary drainage point to manage excess flow and prevent localized flooding.

For ditch inlets, honeycomb-style grates are a popular and practical solution. Our galvanized honeycomb grates are corrosion-resistant and designed to withstand harsh weather and high-flow conditions. Available in Type A, B, or C configurations, these grates are selected based on the slope and hydraulic performance required. Type A offers a steeper incline for fast runoff capture. The Type B serves as a versatile mid-range option. Type C is suited for flatter areas with moderate flow.
